Getting your drivers license

  1. Study http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/dmanual/default.html
  2. Apply for a learner permit. Form: http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/forms/mv44.pdf, take it to a DMV office: http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/ethrum.htm#manh
  3. Pay the application fee and the driver license fee - around $52.50 - $55.00.
  4. Pass the vision test and the written test.

  6. Practice for your road test.
  7. Take a driver education course or a DMV-approved pre-licensing course and obtain a form MV-278. Driving Center of New York 1551 Second Avenue New York, NY 10028 1-212-396-1300 .
  8. Use your driver education certificate or pre-licensing course certificate to make an appointment for your test: http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/rtphone.htm
  9. Pass your road test and receive your NYS driver license.
